Donna Schnoor posted a condolence
We are writing from Iowa to express our sympathy for the passing of Carla. We saw the obituary in the Carmel Pine Cone. Walter and Freda Sessions were our relatives. At the time of Walter’s death my husband Bernard Schnoor along with Freda were at a Caniglio Christmas celebration. Freda also was a friend of the Carmelite nuns and had much in common with your dear Carla. I also recall dining at Phillip Caniglio’s restaurant on one of our visits to Carmel. I am 89 and still living on the farm in Iowa. I send you my condolences and prayers. Our family friendship through Walter and Freda goes way back!
Love Donna Schnoor

Phil Jr & Family. I was so deeply saddened when I saw where Carla has passed. She was a remarkable woman, definitely one of a kind. I used to talk with her quite often when I was the receptionist in Peter's law office. I always enjoyed her visits. Sending a hug to everyone, at this difficult time.

Dear Phillip, Cara Mia, Lisa and Families:
My sincere condolences on the loss of your wonderful Mom. I have happy memories of her, your Dad and all the crew at Mediterranean Market from my days at the B of A in Carmel . . .when you were all kids! Your Mom was a "Special" lady always with that Great smile, sparkle in her eyes and, of course, always the "God Bless"!
Sincerely, Rosie (Mariano) McHale

Dear Auntie Carla blessed my life more times than I can count. Even as a child, I knew she was special. She never let you leave without sending you with a “God bless you”. I knew she meant it and I believe she had God’s ear. She was authentic. Unique. Unlike anyone else I have ever known, and I am so grateful to have been able to call her Auntie. I loved her dearly and will miss her so much!

Dear Coniglios,
I was saddened this morning to read of Carla’s passing—she was one of my last connections with the past. At my age there aren’t that many left. I am happy that I visited her a few months ago, and brought her a little card I had had for a long time—a thankyou note from Carla’s mother, Mariana, to my mother, Aileen Blondell, thanking her for her baby gift. I think she was touched.
When we visited, at one point I told her I had always wished that my brother Jack would marry her because I would have liked her as a sister-in -law. She responded that that was not really necessary since we were brother and sister anyway as my father had been her guardian growing up. (She called him her “gardener”) Her father, Carlo Lepori and my father, (Judge) Hugh H. Donovan, had been roommates in an apartment adjacent to the Bank of America in Pittsburg. Carlo and Hugh had worked together facilitating the merger of B of A and the Bank of Italy with A.P. Giannini. Mariana’s Dress Shop was only a block away, next to Andrew’s Barbershop, where we all got our hair cut.
Anyway, I remember Carla and Phil’s wedding at Diablo Country Club, visits to Fiddletown, Carmel, and the Valley, and our chats over the phone when I was working in Texas.
Carla was one of the most gracious, positive and lovely women I have known.
Her memory will be with me always.
God bless her, and may she rest in peace.

I am so saddened to learn that Auntie Carla has left us and gone to be in heaven with the rest of her family and friends. I loved this woman. Always happy, smiling and full of grace. She and Phil will always be one of my favorite couples--warm, loving and compassionate. They had such fun on their travel adventures. She adored her children and grandchildren and was always willing to share the latest stories.
God has welcomed her with open arms.
Riposa in pace, darling Carla,
Barbara Spagna
