Obituary of Georgiana "Joann" Delores Topper

On Tuesday, July 6, 2021 Georgiana (Joann) Delores Topper, loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and great-great grandmother, completed her journey in life, while at home in Seaside, at the age of 90 years old.

Joann was born on February 22, 1931 to Frank Fermin Garcia and Rose Espinosa and was the eldest elder still residing on her ancestor’s homeland as a member of the Esselen Tribe of Monterey. Having lived locally most of her entire life, Joann worked in various fields, she found that her most rewarding work was caring for the residents at Gateway Center. Joann loved music, parades, taking her grandchildren to the fair, playing Bingo, word search puzzles and playing cards. She passed the love of these activities down to her children and grandchildren and has left cherished memories due to her fun and competitive nature.  She looked forward to her weekly outings for a bagel and shopping with her granddaughter. Joann was generous and shared one of her many talents by gifting lucky family and friends with her beautiful crocheted blankets and garments. Joann treasured spending time with her family and friends. She will live on through our memories and the many lives she has touched.

Joann is survived by her husband of 64 years, Glenn Topper Sr, who she called her love and life saver. She is also survived by her sons, Glenn Jr (Cherie)Topper and John Topper, her daughter Calleen Dobler, her granddaughters, Glenda (David) Santana, Alexis (Damien) Lauderdale, Joann (Paul) Langley, Brittany Topper, Grandson’s, Glenn III (Melissa) Topper, Burt Garcia, Joey Reedy, Jessie (Tonya) Reedy, Preston Reedy, Great Granddaughter, Stephanie (David) Collins, and other great and great-great grandchildren. She also leaves numerous nieces and nephews. Joann was proceeded in death by her sons Michael Reedy and James Reedy and daughter’s Sandy Magdalena and Crystal Rocha.

A small family celebration of Joann’s Life will take place at her son’s home on July 24th. In lieu of Flowers please consider a donation to: Native American Rights Fund and St. Joseph’s Indian School Gateway Center in Pacific Grove
