Born and raised in Istanbul, Turkey, Meline was of Greek and Armenian descent. The eldest of seven children born to Jirayr and Eleni Katac, she married Antranik Karabetyan in 1948 and lived with him until his passing in 1993. A caring and devoted wife and mother, she raised two sons, Aram and Tavit Karabetyan, and, with her family, immigrated to the United States, settling in Monterey, CA, in 1979.
