Edward Botsford

Obituary of Edward Botsford

Edward, 87, passed away on January 21, 2017, with his wife, Ivete, at his side. Ed was born in Cleveland, Ohio, to Laurence and Mildred Botsford. He and his mother moved to California's Bay Area in the late 1930's. Ed was a graduate of Piedmont High School and San Francisco State University. Later, he was commissioned as an Ensign in the Navy, where he served for two years, first attending a Communications Course at the Naval Post Graduate School, Monterey, Ca, and then on the Staff of the Commander Amphibious Forces Pacific Fleet. While a student at NPGS Ed married his first wife, Nancy Mary Menge, in 1953. Upon discharge, in 1955, he joined Shell Oil Company in the San Francisco Sales Division. In late 1956 he and his family moved to Phoenix, AZ, where he attended the American Graduate School of International Management. Upon graduation in 1957, Ed joined Ford Motor Company's International Division, where he served in sales management position in Dearborn, MI, Sào Paulo, Brazil, and Caracas, Venezuela. He was a member of the Rotary Club in Caracas, Venezuela, and later in Key Biscayne, FL. In 1967 Ed joined Chrysler as Sales Director of Chrysler do Brasil. Later he was President & CEO of Bendix do Brasil, Director of Maremont Corporation's Latin-American Operations, and International Harvester's Latin-American Truck Operations. In 1985 Ed returned to his beloved Brazil as President/CEO of Bandag do Brasil, in Sao Paulo. In 1986 he met Ivete Andrade Silva (who immediately recognized in him her soul mate), and after their marriage, in 1993, they moved to Carmel, CA, where he served on the Board of the Carmel Residents Association, and later they relocated to Pacific Grove, CA, when Ivete joined the Pacific Grove Library as a Technical Assistant. Ed was a vibrant person, involved with many causes, especially the ones related to the environment. He also enjoyed restoring old classic cars, as a hobby, but his happiest times were the ones he spent with his family, first raising his children, and then the years he enjoyed with his wife, Ivete (his "mother hen"). Ed is survived by his loving wife Ivete Botsford, his four children: Leslie McCarthy, Lynette Pinto, Jeffrey Botsford, and Robert Botsford; his grandchildren Kevin McCarthy, Michael McCarthy, Jabin Botsford, Dawson Botsford, Max Botsford, his great-grandson Benjamin McCarthy, and his sister Eileen Karpeles. It is Edward's wish that no formal funeral services be held, and that his family commits his ashes to the sea!
