Darlene Bascou

Obituary of Darlene Anne Bascou

Darlene Anne (Davis) Bascou passed away in her home surrounded by loved ones, both human and four legged, on Sunday, January 15, 2017. Darlene was born in Berkeley, California October 16, 1943 to John and Lillian (Brown) Davis and grew up in Santa Cruz/Capitola where she was raised by her mother and step father, Earl Storkson. She was an excellent student and won many awards during her school days including Senior Prom Queen with her high school sweetheart, Richard Bascou by her side as King. After graduating from Santa Cruz High School in 1962, they married and left for San Luis Obispo where Richard attended Cal-Poly and they began their family. Their first son, David, was born in 1963 and Michael joined the family in 1967. Richard's job in the produce industry found them moving frequently but they were never far from the Central Coast and eventually settled on the Monterey Peninsula in 1986. For most of her life, Darlene was employed in the medical and education fields in front office administration and was a most beloved member of the SVUSD for many years and was assistant to the principal of Santa Rita Elementary School when she retired in 2000. Darlene was a beautiful woman and those who knew her will remember her as petite in stature but mighty in spirit. She never wanted to be fussed over but she made everyone she met feel special and loved, especially the "under dog." Speaking of dogs, lucky were the many dogs who were blessed to call her their fur Momma. Darlene preferred the privacy of her home, family and pets, but was always the light and life of any gathering. In earlier days, she enjoyed tennis (and winning more trophies than her husband) and later, traveling with their dogs in their motor home. She was an artist and art lover and took pride and creative pleasure in designing and decorating many houses over the years. There were no straight lines or white walls or beige any things for Darlene. She leaves behind a legacy of curves and color, vibrancy and whimsy. Left behind to cherish her memory are husband Richard, sons David and Michael, daughter-in-law, Deirdre, son-in-law Darren, granddaughter Alexis, her sister Bonnie and her husband Jeff and her daughters, Jennifer and Robin and their families and many more beloved family members and friends. A very special thank you to Nick Bemudez and his staff at Bermudez Family Funerals and the Halo Home Care Agency. Private services have been held. In lieu of flowers, reach out to someone you love and tell them so or a donation to the SPCA would be welcomed. Service Information
