Obituary of Leona Jean Costa Alonso

On Wednesday, December 28, Leona Alonso passed away in the comfort of the home she had shared with her husband since 1950. Leona was born on March 5, 1931 to Manuel and Velma Costa in Merced, California. In 1950, Leona met and married Manuel Alonso and raised two sons with him in Pacific Grove. Her lifelong dedication to the community and decades of volunteer service eventually led to Leona being named 1998 Woman of the Year by Quota International of the Monterey Peninsula. Leona is predeceased by her parents; her sisters, Patricia Costa, Glorianne Wuthrich, Phyllis Costa and Barbara Joy Kuhl; her brother, Sonny Costa; and her granddaughter, Alona Alonso. She is survived by her husband, Manuel, her sons Joseph (Lourdes) and Stephen (Nancy), numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. The Alonso family wishes to thank the wonderful healthcare professionals of CHOMP’s Hospice Program, especially Mary, Tammy, Jody, Kim, Christina and Cindy. Service Information
