Betty Jane Janicki passed away from Parkinson’s related complications on the evening of December 21st at the age of 83. She is survived by her partner John Farrelly, her children, Richard Jr. (Rhonda), Gregory (Karen), Mary, and Jason, and is the grandmother of Rachel (Chris), Sarah (Ryan), Christin, and Matthew, great-grandmother of one with another on the way. Betty was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 40 years, Richard. Betty was an elementary school teacher for over 30 years, mostly at Alisal Union School District and later taught at Central Coast College. Betty and Richard owned and operated two Swenson’s ice-cream parlors in Salinas. Together they raised their children in the three country homes they built themselves in Coral de Tierra. They had a menagerie of animals she loved. Later in life, Betty treasured her walks along the beaches in Carmel, investigated her family’s genealogy, and practiced Tai Chi.
