Obituary of Adelheid Irvin

Adelheid (Heidi) Elisabeth Irvin, age 89, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, November 23, 2016, in Pacific Grove. Heidi was born in Germany in 1927, a middle child, with her twin sister, of six children. She met American mountaineer, Richard Irvin, in London, England, and came to America to marry him in 1957. She lived with her family in Saratoga and worked for many years as a medical technologist at Los Gatos Community Hospital. She was especially known for her wonderful baking and her lifelong love of hiking, nature and adventure travel. After retiring in 1989, she served in the Peace Corps in Africa for nine years. In 1998, she returned to Pacific Grove and became a passionate volunteer with the Monterey Bay Aquarium, the Sierra Club, the Native Plant Society, the Cancer Society Discovery Store and the Sunset Center in Carmel. She is survived by her children, Kristina, Andrea, Hanns and Katja Irvin and her younger sister, Gisela Kühnle, and brother, Heiner Bretschneider. In memory of Heidi, please send donations to the Sierra Club or Doctors Without Borders. Heidi’s children are hosting an open house Christmas Celebration in her memory including many of her famous cookies and a Christmas tree with candles. Please join us to remember Heidi.
