Obituary of Gail Salmonsen

Carmel Valley – Gail C. Salmonsen - mother, wife, daughter, sister, aunt and grandmother passed away after a brief illness on April 28, 2016 at 79 years of age. She was born and grew up in Montpelier, Vermont graduating from Vermont City College where she met her husband, Col. Peter Salmonsen, who was attending nearby Norwich University. They were married December 27, 1957 and spent the next 27 years in the Army traveling the world and raising 4 children, before retiring to Carmel after more than 20 military moves. In addition to being a mother of four children Gail worked as office manager for several physicians in the Carmel area for 20 years. She and her husband, Pete were very involved in the community. They ran “Bingmobile” for Carmel Youth Center and Carmel High Padre Parents, founded the Run for Fun”ds”, were early members of FOCUS (Friends of Carmel Unified Schools), were part of the original class of guides at the Monterey Bay Aquarium and served for more than 10 years. She was founding Board member of the Big Sur International Marathon. Gail loved people and had a great group of friends and neighbors. She found ways to help others, took care of rescue dogs and played bridge regularly at the Monterey Bridge Center. Gail was preceded in her death by her husband of 50 years, Pete, in 2008 and is survived by her four children Brian (Lori) of Monterey, Paul (Doreen) of Ventura, Laura of Sacramento and Carl (Monique) of Sacramento, and seven grandchildren: Ryan, Tyler, Kyle, Kate, Andrew, Robert and James. She is also survived by her Brother Richard Pierce (Diana) of Barre VT, Ellie Bertrand (Fred) Naples FL, Robert Pierce (Patty) Naples FL and predeased by brother Charlie Pierce. A celebration of life will be held at Rancho Canada Golf Club on May 15, 2016 at noon. Bermudez Family is handling the arrangements.
