Obituary of Gabriele Graham

Gabriele Lux Graham (Myers) of Pacific Grove died April 28, 2016 after a long and mostly successful battle with cancer. She was surrounded by her family and friends. She is survived by her husband of 24 years, Craig Myers. She was widowed in 1989 by the late Don Graham. She has three step-children, Corinne Bonynge, Jennifer Mason, and David Neubert. She is “Omi” to six grandchildren. She will be greatly missed by her countless German and American dear friends. She was born on September 2nd, 1945 in war ravaged Berlin, Germany. Gabi never met her father, who was killed in an American air raid before her birth. She was raised by her late mother, Charlotte Lux, in the American sector of post-war Berlin. They survived many hardships together and always remained close. After training and working as a dental hygienist in Germany, Gabriele moved to the Monterey Peninsula in 1968. She worked at various places around the Monterey Peninsula including The Highlands Inn, Pacific Grove Travel, and The Shutters Restaurant. She spent the last 40 years doing home healthcare and as a massage therapist. Many of her dear, often elderly, clients became beloved friends. Her clients have described her as a mental, emotional and physical healer. She remained in close contact with her many friends in the local German community and throughout Europe. While loyal to America, she refused to give up her German citizenship. She deeply loved America, and would remind Americans who dared to complain, that they are lucky to be born in the freest and kindest nation on Earth. Throughout her life she had many hobbies and activities including water skiing, shopping in second hand stores, and taking care of her many dogs. But her greatest passion was always travel. She identified as truly lucky person. She felt blessed by each and every day of her whole life. She is known for her joy, strength and energy, and she loved to generously share those qualities with friends and family. Gabi and her family are forever grateful for the skilled and compassionate care given by the Pacific Oncology Center, Dr. Rubin, and the staff in Terrace West of the Community Hospital of the Monterey Peninsula. At Gabi’s emphatic request there will be no formal services. Found in her notes in is the following quote that describes her well.: “There are those whose lives affect all others around them. Quietly touching one heart, who in turn touches another. Reaching out to ends further than they would ever know. Leaving all of us a little richer than we were before.” Service Information
