Obituary of Lana Songstad

Obituary Lana Songstad (Svetlana Lebedew known as “Lana”) passed away on May 23, 2020 after a courageous fight with a long illness at the age of 74. Lana was born in Regensburg, Germany to Vitaly and Marina Lebedew in 1946. The family, displaced after World War 2, immigrated to the United States via Long Beach, CA . They lived in Lincoln Heights, Los Angeles when she was a child through her early teens. After the passing of her mother, Lana soon rooted in Pacific Grove, CA with her father who taught Russian at the DLI. A 1963 graduate of Pacific Grove High School, Lana found joy participating in Girls Glee Club. She was briefly married to Kjell Songstad. Lana’s interests were in the arts. Lana performed ballet as a child. As an adult she enjoyed singing Karaoke with friends and drawing. She also loved creating custom costumes for Halloween. Lana enjoyed hosting dinner gatherings cooking her favorite dishes- tacos, bell peppers, and her original red stew. She was a compassionate caregiver who assisted many families by caring for the elderly and disabled on Monterey Peninsula. Her warm heart touched many people who had the privilege of knowing her. Those who knew her loved her. Lana was a huge lover of cats and dogs! Especially, cats! She is survived by her son David Lemon and her siblings, Theodore Lebedew, Audrey Howitt, Helene Knott, Tony Swanson, and Paul Swanson. Lana is now in the arms of our Lord and Savior. God Bless her forever! A Memorial Mass will take place at St. Angela Merici Catholic Church, 362 Lighthouse Ave. Pacific Grove, CA. on Friday July 10, 2020 at 11:00am.
