Obituary of James Grover Taylor

James Grover Taylor V was born on July 14, 1939 in Newark, New Jersey and died at the Del Monte Residential Care Center in Pacific Grove, California on June 2, 2017. His mother was Ida Sokol Taylor and his father was James Grover Taylor IV. The family moved to Flemington, New Jersey and Jim graduated from Hunterdon Central High School in 1957. There is still a plaque displayed commemorating him as the highest achiever of academic excellence at Hunterdon High. He obtained his BA, MS and PHD at Stanford University in Petroleum Engineering. He was awarded the Phi Beta Kappa Key in his Junior year. He met Mary Ann Thompson at Stanford where she was obtaining a BS in Nursing. They married in 1966. He worked for Mobil Oil in Dallas, CDEC at Fort Ord, then was recruited by the Naval Postgraduate School to teach Operations Research, attaining a full professorship and teaching there for 40 years. He was the author of several books on Operations Research. He was a Cubmaster, sang in the choir at St. John's Chapel, and was a member of the Parent's Club at Santa Catalina and Robert Louis Stevenson Schools. He leaves his wife of 51 years Mary Ann, two sons James Grover Taylor VI, MD (Janet) and Asher Taylor (Kristal) and a daughter Kasnya Taylor Berry (Brent) and six grandchildren. Private burial services will be held Thursday June 15, 2017 at the Monterey Cemetery. A memorial service will be held at St John's Chapel in Monterey on Saturday, July 15, 2017 at 11 AM with a reception to follow in the Parish Hall.
