My relationship with Sal involved golf at Del Monte Golf Course. He was always so kind and greeted each of us as we arrived. He would always ask me if I needed some balls and would go to his locker and give me a few. Everyone that played Del Monte knew about Sal’s happy face tees. It was always a must to grab a few each time to play with on the course. Before an upcoming tournament, Sal told me his tees were going to give me a hole in one. So on the last hole of the tournaments at Laguna Seca ( I was playing poorly). I went to the tee with Sal’s happy face tee and hit the ball. It went into the hole…. A hole-in-one! At the tournament dinner, I was asked to say a few words in front of over 120 women golfers and directors. I told the story of Sal’s tees and his help in my first hole-in-one. I couldn’t wait to go to Del Monte and share the news with Sal. He was so pleased.
On Sal’s last day at,Del Monte, he gave me a box of all his happy face tees. After Sal died, the girl’s at Del Monte and Laguna Seca on a special golf day, we’re given one of Sal’s tees to play with on the course in his honor. He meant so much to all of us. We all loved the kind, gentle soul that he was. I think of him each week when I play with his happy face tts and remember how very special he was❤️
