Obituary of Salvatore "Sal" Ursino

Salvatore "Sal" Ursino passed away after a full and active life on May 1, 2021 with his family by his side. A beloved member of the Monterey Community, Sal was born October 9, 1936 to Tino and Dolly Ursino.

 

He worked nearly 40 years at The Monterey Herald; retiring as Circulation Director. Sal then went on to work 25 years as a Starter at Del Monte Golf Course and was known for putting happy faces on the golf tees. He was also a partner in the Village Shoe Tree and Carmel Men’s Bootery shoe stores. Sal enjoyed attending all of his grandchildren‘s activities and was the true definition of a family man.

 

Sal was preceded in death by his son, Tino, in 2003 and leaves behind wife, Anne of 58 years; daughter, Beth (Dan) Fridley; grandson, Derek (Jaymi) Fridley; grandson, Daniel Fridley; granddaughter, Amanda (David Wayne) Russo and great-grandson Luca Ursino Fridley.

 

The family would like to give special thanks to the staff at CHOMP including Dr. Davis and Dr. Thomas Bradley.

 

Funeral Mass for Sal will be held at San Carlos Church Monday, May 17th at 10:00am. All donations please be made to San Carlos School and Community Hospital of the Monterey Peninsula.
